Electricity is an essential and strategic infrastructure for the life of the nation and development of a country. Other than supporting the economic growth and walfare of a community, the electricity also determines the resilience of a nation. We took starting steps in electricity business by serving in general trading and services, such as computerizing and maintaining electricity generators.
Post-economic crisis of 1998, when the Reform Era opens opportunity for private parties in the construction of electricity generators, we started to takes step as electricity suppliers. First we constructed and operated a Diesel-powered Electricity Generators (Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Diesel – PLTD) in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, then we constructed a Gas-powered Electricity Generator (Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Gas - PLTG) in Jambi. In view of ever-increasing national need for electricity and with the increase of population, we are determined to continue developing ourselves in the field electricity generation. We prioritize clean energy using the primary energies of natural gas and geothermal, even though we still see some opportunities in constructing Steam-powered Electricity Generators (Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Uap – PLTU), which use coal. When a PLTN (Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Nuklir - Nuclear-powered Electricity Generator) is developed, we would also like to play our role. Nuclear technology with its much cheaper price yet extremely large capacity, is an option worthy of consideration – naturally, with premium mastery of technology and proper calculation of all risk factors. As a healty company that obtains profits through the application of good corporate governance, we are currently making various preparation for becoming a publicly – owned company. If there are no obstacles, EPU would be going publlic in 2015. We constantly try to become good corporate citizen that grow and develop with our partners and community. We want to become an important part in development of Indonesia’s Electricity.
